DoctorCareFree is a free, independent, volunteer-run project with one goal: give anyone, anywhere, a calm and clear explanation of what might be happening in their body, drawn from the same public sources clinicians use. It is not affiliated with any medical organization. It runs on volunteer time and a small amount of money for the AI service behind the answers.
Clinicians: help review answers
The single most valuable contribution is a licensed clinician's eye. Right now answers are generated by an AI model and are not reviewed by a human before people see them. We want to change that. If you are a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, physician associate, pharmacist, or nurse and can give even an hour a month to:
- spot-check a batch of real (anonymous) questions and answers for accuracy and safety,
- flag answers that should have escalated to "see a clinician" or "emergency" and didn't,
- suggest clearer plain-language wording, or
- help build a reviewed library of the most common conditions,
…we would be grateful. Reviewers are credited by name and credentials on this site if they wish.
Translators
The assistant already replies in the user's language, but the site pages (this one, the consent screen, the emergency banner) are English only. Native speakers who can translate a few hundred words are welcome.
Developers
The site is open source under the MIT license. Priorities: grounding answers in a vetted corpus (MedlinePlus, NHS, StatPearls) with enforced citations, a clinician review workflow, bot protection, and locale-aware emergency numbers.
Everyone else
- Tell someone who needs it. That is the whole point.
- Report a wrong or unsafe answer so it can be fixed.
- Support frontline care: consider donating to Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders. They are an independent charity; this site is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
- Want to volunteer with Doctors Without Borders themselves (field or office roles)? That is a separate organization with its own process — see Work with MSF.
